Praying for Our Enemies

Recently my family and I visited the CANDLES Holocaust Museum in Terre Haute, Indiana. Eva Kor, an Auschwitz survivor during WWII, was a Mengele twin. Dr. Josef Mengele, known as “Doctor Death,” performed medical experiments on the concentration camp victims and twins at Auschwitz. They were subjected to horrendous conditions and experiments. Eva Kor survived.  “Forgiveness is a personal act,” Eva says, “forgiveness leads to peace.”

Pinchas Gutter, a holocaust survivor says, “I will never forgive. They should burn in hell.” How sad!  I am sure he is tormented by his memories as a child, whereas Eva is free from this torment.

Scriptures tell us in Matthew 5:44, “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” The Bible says that the Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends. Job 42:10, “And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.” Blessings come when we forgive and pray for our enemies.

Many years ago, at two different times, we heard false rumors against us. They hurt! My husband and I chose to forgive each offender. We have been blessed in our ministry because of it. We chose to love, to forgive, and to pray for them.  There is a peace and liberty that comes when we truly can forgive our enemies.
